The next Director of Information Technology will play a critical leadership role in shaping the County’s technology future while guiding a high-performing department responsible for enterprise systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud services, business applications, digital services, data governance, and emerging technologies. This executive will serve as a trusted strategic advisor to County leadership and will help position Prince William County as a forward-thinking leader in government technology and innovation.
Reporting to executive leadership, the Director of Information Technology serves as the County’s Chief Information Officer and provides overall strategic leadership and operational oversight for the County’s technology enterprise.
This executive will lead enterprise-wide technology planning, cybersecurity strategy, digital transformation initiatives, and modernization efforts while ensuring the reliability, security, and scalability of technology systems and infrastructure. The Director will oversee strategic and capital planning, operating and capital budget administration, enterprise technology governance, project delivery, vendor management, and organizational leadership across multiple IT divisions and programs.

with a demonstrated track record of leading complex enterprise IT organizations in large,
multifaceted environments.
The successful candidate will be a transformational leader capable of balancing innovation with
operational discipline while fostering a collaborative, customer-focused, and high-performing
organizational culture. The ideal candidate will possess:
- Significant executive or senior-level technology leadership experience within large, complex
organizations; - Strong experience leading enterprise technology operations, cybersecurity initiatives,
infrastructure modernization, cloud migrations, and digital transformation programs; - Demonstrated success developing and implementing enterprise-wide IT strategies aligned with
organizational objectives and service delivery goals; - Experience overseeing large operating and capital technology budgets and managing enterprise
technology investments; - A deep understanding of cybersecurity, IT governance, compliance, risk management, and
technology best practices; - Strong communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to translate complex
technical concepts into actionable business strategies; - Experience fostering innovation and leading organizational change initiatives; and
- The leadership presence, strategic perspective, and emotional intelligence necessary to effectively serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and stakeholders.
Experience in public-sector or local government environments is strongly preferred.
