Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing instrumentation as needed to the surgical team. This role supports unit activities to ensure high-quality patient care and functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions
- Apply sterile and aseptic techniques with expertise in human anatomy, surgical procedures, and instrumentation; function with working knowledge of AORN standards.
- Inspect and maintain surgical items for packaging integrity, sterility, and expiration; ensure safe operating room conditions and equipment functionality.
- Monitor sterile field for contamination or interference; initiate corrective action under supervision.
- Demonstrate competency or progress toward competency in Tier 1 surgical cases.
- Contribute flexibly to individualized, ongoing patient care within scope of practice.
- Communicate effectively with perioperative team; fully participate in Time Out Process, Briefings, and Debriefings.
- Assist with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation.
- Maintain professional behavior and stay current with new technologies, procedures, and equipment.
- Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
- Model Just Culture principles and maintain HIPAA compliance.
Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Experience: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
- License: Surgical Technologist license in the state of Colorado (required).
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association.
- Technical Skills:
- Computer literacy to complete online learning, forms, and policies within 90 days.
- Ability to access online benefits enrollment and job-specific competencies.
